SMHM Master's Fellowship
The SMHM Master’s Fellowship provides one year of financial support (typically $10,000) to a new student pursuing a master’s degree in merchandising or hospitality management.
- New master’s students are those who have:
- been admitted to a UNT merchandising or hospitality management master’s program
- not taken graduate courses at UNT prior to the fellowship award.
- The fellowship recipient must be enrolled in full-time year-round study:
- Minimum of nine (9) hours of 5000 level courses for Fall and Spring semesters (18 total hours); and a
- Minimum of six (6) hours during Summer.
- The student will be assigned a graduate faculty mentor for the duration of the fellowship.
- The student will be expected to participate in collaborative research that is submitted for presentation at regional, national, and international conferences.
The SMHM Master’s Fellowship will begin in the Fall semester following the award verification.
Only complete SMHM Master’s Fellowship applications will be considered for the award. Applications require that you
MUST:
- Be accepted into the UNT Toulouse School of Graduate Studies.
- Be accepted into either the merchandising (MDSE) or hospitality management (HMGG) program. (Conditional admits may be considered.)
- Have a minimum 3.25 Cumulative GPA (prior Bachelor or Master’s course work).
In addition, you MUST submit the following:
- The application cover page (Found under "links &
Forms")
- List of three academic references (former or
current professors) including their e-mail addresses and institutional
affiliation.
- References MUST send directly to the SMHM Graduate Coordinator the following support materials:
- SMHM Master’s Fellowship Recommendation Form
(Found under "links & Forms")
- "Statement of Professional Goals" (2-3 pages)
- Professional resume
Application packet materials must be received by March 15. Applications received after March 15 will be considered if any funds remain from the previous application evaluation.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the recommendations from references have been received by the SMHM Graduate Coordinator.
