The School of Merchandising & Hospitality Management is proud to boast two dynamic boards, which guide the merchandising and hospitality management programs in their development and fund raising activities. Board members are recognized leaders in their respective fields and work diligently as advocates for the school and university. Specifically, the boards bring their expertise to faculty and students through participation in curriculum development, keynote lectures, recruitment events, and field studies. An especially critical function of the board is to assist the School in developing and cultivating external support.

Joyce Duesman   Joyce Duesman is the Senior Manager in Industry Relations for PepsiCo Foodservice, a division of PepsiCo, Inc, which includes the Pepsi Cola, FritoLay, Quaker Oats, Tropicana, and Gatorade brands. Joyce has worked for PepsiCo, Inc. 9 1/2 years in National Sales, Marketing and Industry Relations roles. Prior to PepsiCo, she has worked for Sara Lee Meats, The Brice Group and National Steak and Poultry in National Sales. She spent the first part of her foodservice career as a college foodservice director at Texas Woman's University.

Very active in the industry, she has served on the Board of Directors and chair and volunteer of various committees for the Women's Foodservice Forum (WFF) and spent one year as a loaned executive to WFF by PepsiCo as the Director of Operations.  She also serves on committees with the National Association of Automatic Merchandisers Association and the Multicultural Foodservice and Hospitality Alliance.  Joyce serves on the Board of Governors for the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management at University of North Texas and presently serves as Board Chair.  Joyce was instrumental in starting the Pilot Point Educational Foundation for her local community and served as the founding President of the Board of Governors.  She presently holds the honor of Lifetime Board Member for that organization.

Joyce has a Masters in Food Science and Nutrition from Texas Woman's University, an undergraduate in Home Economics Education from North Texas State University, (class of 1977) and is a Registered Dietitian. She and her husband, Milton Duesman (class of 1975, North Texas State University) reside on a ranch outside of Pilot Point, Texas and have two children: Tyler, 26 (a 2003 UNT Hospitality Management program graduate) and Whitney, 23.
