Beginning Summer 2008, all students entering the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management must have a minimum grade point average of at least 2.25 on all courses completed at UNT. First term/semester transfer students must have a transfer grade point average of 2.25. Academic requirements for graduation with a BS from the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management include:
Prerequisite Check
Students MUST complete all prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in upper division courses. There are no exceptions. Please refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for specific prerequisite requirements. Students are required to submit verification of prerequisite completion (unofficial transcript) at the beginning of each semeseter.
New Six Course Drop Rule
Undergraduate students enrolling in college for the first time beginning Fall 2007 may drop a maximum of six courses (including transfer work) taken from Texas Public Institutions of Higher Education. This rule does not apply to courses dropped prior to the census date, courses dropped with a grade of WF, and does not apply if the student withdraws for the term or session. Requests for exception to the drop limitation must be made in writing to the student's academic dean and must occur during the semester that the dropped course was taken.
30 Plus Hour Rule
New undergraduate students enrolling in an institution of higher education in Fall 2006 or afterward are subject to the conditions of House Bill 1172 passed in the 79th Legislative Session. This law states that a resident undergraduate student (one who pays in-state tuition) whose attempted semester hours exceeds by at least 30 hours the number required for completion of the degree program may be charged tuition at a higher rate. The higher rate will not exceed the rate charged to non-resident undergraduate students.
45 Plus Hour Rule
Senate Bill 345, the 45 Plus Hour Rule, stipulates that a student taking more than 45 hours over the minimum required for their undergraduate degree will be required to pay tuition at a rate higher than the rate charged for regular resident undergraduate tuition. The 45 Plus Hour Rule does not apply to a student who initially enrolled as an undergraduate in an institution of higher learning before the Fall 1999 semester.
