(Eddie) Pruekpairojkul (MS 2002)

 

2009 Outstanding Alumus in Hospitality Management

 

Current Position: Training Manager, Hyatt Regency Hua Hin in Thailand

 

 

As the training manager for Hyatt Hotels, Eddie is responsible for the development of hundreds of employees.   He enjoys helping supervisors and managers build the skills and knowledge to help them move to the next level of their career. He is tasked with setting new directions for leadership development across all divisions in the hotel.  He credits much of his success to his UNT experience, Eddie notes, "What I have learned and experienced from UNT-SMHM has helped me move forward.  I would recommend that students start gaining valuable work experience now.  I still remember the wonderful experiences at UNT.  A BIG thanks to everyone!"  


 

Amy Anderson (BS 1999; MS 2001)

 

2009 Outstanding Alumna in Merchandising

 

Current Position: Divisional Merchandiser, Aarons Rent Inc.

 

 

Amy Anderson's career has skyrocketed over the past nine years with the successful home furnishings retailer, Aaron Rents Inc.  As the divisional merchandiser, Amy oversees a five state territory with 90 stores, supervising four regional merchandisers. She is responsible for merchandising, new store openings, relocations, remodels, store development, and marketing. 

 The flexibility of her position provides Amy with new challenges everyday. "There is never a dull moment. On Monday I may be opening a new store and on Friday seeking out a billboard for one of our new Aaron locations."  While many companies are closing their doors, Aaron Rents Inc. opens a new location every 2.5 days. No doubt, Amy's experience and creativity have contributed to the company’s continued growth and success.

Julee Emmons (BS 1998)

Current Position: Merchandise Coordinator, Barse Jewelry Company

 

Julee Emmons began her career with Barse Jewelry Company in 1998 after graduating with her BS in merchandising. As the companies Trade Show Director, Barse received numerous awards including three Dallas Fashion Awards and three Diva awards. Most recently she has taken on the role of Merchandise Coordinator where she is responsible for over 30 merchandisers throughout the USA. The Barse brand consistently ranks in the top 100 department store brands in jewelry and accessories in the wholesale industry. Julee has been instrumental in hiring over 50 students from UNT’s internship program where many have gone on to start their career working for Barse.

 

 

Jeff North (BS 2005)

Current Position: General Manager, TGI Friday’s NorthPark Mall

 

 

Jeff North, a recent hospitality management graduate, has held the title of a Center of Excellence General Manager for six of his nine years as a General Manager with TGI Friday’s.  In 2007, Jeff was promoted to General Manager of the flagship store located inside North Park Mall in Dallas, TX.  Jeff has successfully trained over 40 new managers for the Dallas/Fort Worth market, mentored fellow general managers, and opened both domestic and international locations. In 2004 and 2005, Jeff held the esteemed Leadership and Communication Award for the West Division. He also is actively involved in the Plano Chamber of Commerce.

Being an Associate Buyer for Bed Bath & Beyond is different from any other position I've held in that I'm truly empowered to make assortment decisions that are in the best interest of my department and the company at large.  My days are usually packed full with vendor meetings, which is really exciting for me since I love the interaction and the negotiations that are inherent with this industry.  I never imagined that my past experiences in the furniture industry on both the buying and planning side would translate so easily to my current position and department.

“I work at the front desk of a beautiful massive resort located right on the ocean. My lobby is wide open and I am blessed to be able to watch the sunset from my desk every evening during work! I also get to meet people from all over the world who are experiencing this amazing island for the first time, and it's priceless to see the joy and excitement in their eyes. Not to mention the many celebrities I get to meet!! I really enjoy the diversity. I have so many choices in my career path, from Rooms Control in the hotel, to Restaurant Manager, to Pastry Chef. The options are endless. We are fortunate to be working in such a diverse and wide-span market. Take advantage, travel, and work somewhere you have always wanted to visit!”

"I enjoying making decisions that increase our profitability and overall store performance.  I am currently the Encore Regional Merchandiser for the Capital Region in Washington, DC. " Prior to this position, Nicole received the Driving Your Business Manager of the Year Award for Nordstrom at Galleria Dallas. .

"As an Operations Manager for Lexmark, I get to be a part of every aspect of the business from item set-up to shipping to on-shelf merchandising. Every product has cycles, and I get to use all '5 Ps' of merchandising every day.  To maintain the integrity and profitability of my accounts, I frequently visit retail headquarters such as Target, Wal-Mart, Office Depot, Circuit City, and Office Max, to name a few.  I also helped Lexmark become the first printer company to move to a direct import fulfillment model."

As an educator I have the privilege to share my passion for the apparel and textile industry with students who are eager to learn about everything the industry has to offer them in their future career endeavors.  It is extremely rewarding for me to see my apprehensive freshmen evolve into confident seniors who then become successful professionals in the merchandising field. I currently teach courses such as Contemporary Fashion Analysis, Product Line Development, Merchandise Planning & Control, and International Fashion Industry.  My position provides me with the opportunity to travel both domestically (New York City) and internationally (Paris, France) with my students."

“I enjoy teaching and seeing a student progress from having little or no understanding of the industry to their knowledge after they complete their internship. Our program currently holds classes in a historic hotel (Inn at Carnall Hall) that was a woman's dorm in the early 1900s. In 2007, I was nominated for the University of Arkansas Teacher of the Year, an honor received by less than 10% of all faculty. I am currently working toward a Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University.”
