According to the University of North Texas guidelines for a minor as printed in the current undergraduate catalog, a student is required to do a minimum of 18 credit hours in a given subject, including 6 hours of advanced work. It is recommended that a student interested in earning a minor in Home Furnishings Merchandising take the following classes:

 

  • SMHM 2360: Aesthetics & Environment (3 hours)
  • SMHM 2400: Introduction to the Furniture Industry (3 hours)
  • SMHM 3350: Survey of Historic and Contemporary Styles (3 hours) (Spring only)
  • SMHM 3570: Decorative Accessories (3 hours)
  • SMHM 4400: Estimating for Home Furnishings (3 hours)*

 

and one of the following classes:

 

  • SMHM 3750: Consumer Studies in Apparel and Home Furnishings(3 hours)
  • SMHM 3850: Promotion of Apparel and Home Furnishings (3 hours)
  • SMHM 4080: Merchandising Ventures (3 hours)*
  • SMHM 4850: Brand Development (3 hours)
