The MBA/MS in Merchandising or Hospitality Management requires a total of 54 hours for the dual degree. SMHM courses may be taken in a web-based format or in residency. Many MBA courses are offered on weekends and/or evenings.

 

Degree Requirements

Upon completion of the background courses in the College of Business Administration and the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management, the student will complete:

 

  • 30 hours of graduate courses in business with 6 hours of SMHM electives
  • 24 hours of graduate courses in SMHM with 12 hours of business electives
  • A comprehensive examination for each degree:
    • For the MBA, this requirement is satisfied by the completion of BUSI 5190 - Administrative Strategy with a grade of B or better during the student’s last semester of enrollment.
    • For the master’s degree, this requirement is satisfied by the completion of a comprehensive written exam after the successful completion of at least 24 hours of course work and either SMHM 5300 or SMHM 5400 or by the completion of a thesis SMHM 5950 (6 hours).

Financial Assistance

Competitive scholarships are available to graduate students in merchandising and hospitality management. Students may also apply for financial awards from a wide range of national, state, local, university, and school sources.
