Graduate Admissions

The student must meet the requirements for admission to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies. Included in these requirements are:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
  • An overall GPA of at least a 3.0 for the last 60 semester hours of course work or a 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate coursework;
  • Acceptable scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the GMAT;
  • GRE or GMAT score must be less than 10 years old; Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English.

 

In addition, to be considered for admission into the merchandising or hospitality management programs, students need to submit to the SMHM Graduate Coordinator:

 

  • Three letters of recommendation from employers and/or former faculty;
  • detail professional resume; and
  • A professional essay that addresses the following:  previous educational degree(s) and certifications, professional work experience(s) related to you intended major, your motivation to seek the MS degree in this major, identify your future professional goals and explain how the MS degree will enable you to obtain those goals. 

     

 

Deficiency Coursework

A student who does not have the necessary course work or appropriate work experience, must complete specified deficiency courses before beginning the graduate program. Deficiency courses will be identified by the Graduate Coordinator in conjunction with the Division Chair of the appropriate program.

 

Students must also successfully complete all assigned deficiency work with a grade of A or B prior to enrollment in graduate courses, or during their first semester if concurrent enrollment in both deficiency and graduate courses is possible. Other admissions requirements may exist for the dual MBA/MS program or the graduate certificate program.

Deadlines

The student should be aware of all deadlines specified in the Graduate Catalog.

 

Students who will complete graduate degree requirements at the close of the semester must:

 

  • remove grades of "I" in all courses required for the degree (exception SMHM 5950);
  • pass final examination ;
  • file application for graduation;
  • pay all graduation fees, and;
  • if applicable, file thesis in the Graduate Dean's office.
